I attended Lincoln School from 1947-1954.  I can't remember the Kdg. Teacher but first grade was taught by Miss Carlson, 2nd by Miss Anderson, 3rd by Miss Mellen, 4th by Miss Olson.  They were the teachers for many years.   It only went to 4th grade until an addition of 5th and 6th grade classes were added in approx. 1953.  The addition to the south also included a gym and a stage.

Each student that attended Lincoln School also had the opportunity to belong to the Drum and Bugle Corp.  We had rehearsals and wore uniforms.  Marched in many parades in Clear Lake.

I also remember that they would flood the back area of the school yard in the winter so that there would be a skating rink for all of us to skate on.

We had a real cool merry-go-round.  It not only went around but it also swung in and out.  It was balanced on a big steel pipe and every Halloween some would take it off the pipe and leave the merry-go-round on the ground.

These are just a few memories I have of Lincoln School.  Marilyn (Merwin) Jackson CLHS 1960

If for some reason, they decide to demolish Lincoln school, I have no schools left.  Maybe some of my memories will be of interest to others and they can't take those away.
We all had to run to the "big tree" which was on the southeast corner of the playground.  It was a large cottonwood that for some reason attracted us.
Another of my memories is of our principal, Miss Andersen.  We were always not only in awe of her, but somewhat afraid.  I'll always remember how she played the piano as we danced around the room.  I got up close and personal with her the time that I along with some other boys broke into the school to help a classmate (a girl) who just had to have something for the Saturday night performance in the high school.  Every performance even the movies we saw were at the high school and returning that Friday afternoon from practice, the building was locked.  Nice guys that we were, we just had to help a damsel in distress.  I just knew that my mother would find out so I took the long way home hoping to postpone the inevitable.  I was right, she knew and so did Miss Andersen.  We had to face her wrath Monday morning.  As I remember, the punishment was payment for the lock and worst of all listening to Miss Andersen point out the error of our ways.
The teachers I remember were: Miss Risser, kindergarten; Miss Carlson, first or second grade; Miss Olson, fourth grade; and a Miss Mellum.  Every time I have occasion to drive by Lincoln school I remember the teachers and kids who had such an influence on me.  God bless them all!
Larry Andersen (Andy)  (CLHS 1957)

I was saddened to learn that Lincoln School was closing.  We had moved to the Lake in 1951..or so.  I only attended the sixth grade there led by Wayne Stamm who later went on to become a principal somewhere in the system.  Janet Eames sat behind me. I had the world's biggest crush on her and spent a lot of time just looking (okay staring) at her.  We just lived a few blocks away across from Dennis, David and Billy Farnan. Going to/from school I walked past the Eames, Risvold and Frank Lucas' house and not far from Joanne Wessel's home.  I first met my good friend Larry Wedeking at the merry-go-round at Lincoln School.  And yes, if you fog a mirror and count any kind of a beat, you were selected for the Drum and Bugle Corps.  I have hated the colors gold and royal blue ever since.  That said, I did start my musical career with the Corps and went on to carve new vistas of mediocrity in several school groups.  (I was chagrined to learn that my name was not listed on the roster of the mixed chorus but what the hey.  I still have one of the red and gray jackets with the patch that attested not only my membership in the chorus, but also the band.  My mother wore the jacket more than I did.)  My year at Lincoln was great in spite a gigantic attack of adolescent angst. As Larry Anderson wrote, they can close the building and tear it down but they can't take away the memories.  Don Stebbins (CLHS 1959)
