Lyrics for 'Dear Hearts and Gentle People'

I love those dear hearts and gentle people
Who live in my home town
Because those dear hearts and gentle people
Will never ever let you down

They read the good book
From Fri till Monday
That's how the weekend goes
I've got a dream house
I'll build there one day
With picket fence and ramblin' rose

I feel so welcome each time I return
That my happy heart keeps laughin' like a clown
I love the dear hearts and gentle people
Who live and love in my home town

There's a place I'd like to go
And it's back in Iowa
(Idaho was the word but Iowa fits the purpose)

Where you're friendly neighbors smile and say hello
It's a pleasure and a treat
To meandor down the street
That's why I want the whole wide world to know
(I love those dear hearts)
I love the gentle people
(Who live in my home town)
Because those dear hearts and gentle people
Will never ever let you down

They read the good book
From Fri till Monday
That's how the weekend goes
I've got a dream house
I'll build there one day
With picket fence and ramblin' rose

I feel so welcome each time that I return
That my happy heart keeps laughin' like a clown
I love the dear hearts and gentle people
Who live and love in my home town

(Home, home, sweet home)
(Home, home, sweet home)

If I remember right, your dad used to wear a yellow tie!  Bet that is what they are looking at.  Probably the white tie getup was for a Tri-T dinner, of which I know mom was a charter member.  Possibly your mom too.  It was a sorority, and Diane was a member at one time also.

That would have been a T.T.T. (Not spelled Tri T, but pronounced Tri T) Annual Ball. This picture shows one of the fabulous center pieces we came up with each year when we created a dressy, fun night at the Surf Ballroom  The Ball were fabulous for the times!  We hired a band, sent out five hundred or more invitations, spent hours and hours making decorations and always had an outstanding centerpiece on the food table.  We always had a theme, and once it was "Merry Ol' England" and we had a baked pig with apple in his mouth that the Clear Lake Bakery cooked for us!!! We never expected to cut it and eat it as it was just suppose to be a centerpiece of conversation, but when some one suggested it, we had one of the Jensen brothers who was at the dance, carve the pig and the people ate every single morsel!!!!   T.T.T. was a national organization who believed in the progress and education of young women.  We had a camp somewhere in Minnesota for 12 yr. old girls and every year, every chapter sent a deserving child to the camp for two weeks of fun and character building activities.

Almost 40 years ago (1945?) this group did the Ball and Jack at the Lion's Club Minstrel show in the Clear Lake High School.

From left to right, Lou Hintzman, Mary Jane Christensen, Nadine Hayden, Jorry Merriman, Delores O'Neil and Myrna Atkins.

They were accompanied by a band which included Barney Reynolds, Shorty Bickford and H.T. Christensen.
