Clear Lake - James P. Stuart, 821 South Shore Drive, Clear Lake,
died Monday (April 6, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa,
Mason City.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
A visitation with family will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.
Memorials may be given to the James P. Stuart Memorial Fund.
Jim was born May 12, 1948, in Mason City, the son of Robert C. and Doris (Pickett) Stuart. Jim graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1966. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelors degree in anthropology.
Jim married Brenda Keane on May 19, 1970. After college he worked for Bergo's Clothing and Bowen's in Mason City. He then worked for Brandt's Dock and Hoist service for more than 20 years as barge operator; known as the "Best Barge Operator on the Planet."
At 16 years of age, he won the X Class Sail Boat Championships. He enjoyed fishing, boating, water skiing, sailing, being on the lake and golfing.
Jim is survived by his two children, Allison Stuart, Syracuse, N.Y., and Jimmy Stuart, Carpentersville, Ill.; one grandson, Jayden Linney; and his fiancé, Sue McPherren, Clear Lake.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother; two sisters, Suzanne Dunbar and Sharon Larson; and an infant brother, Billy.
