Lois Brownlee Phelps Pfau and family -
September 11, 2008
Just wanted to let my classmates know that a huge disaster has befallen us. On July 19th. 2 of my grandsons were in a car accident with 4 other young men. Kale, our oldest grandson perished at the scene after being thrown 80 ft. Our 14 y.o.,Kade, died 1 hr and 45 minutes later at the hospital after a failed resuscitation attempt. 2 other boys died at the scene and 2 precious souls survived. They were on their way to a basketball tournament 35 miles away on a bright sunny day. Kale was thrown so far because he gave up his seat belt to his younger brother. They died of head and chest injuries.
We've all been in a haze since this time. My son and his family are dealing with as best they can. Their remaining son, Kyler, didn't go because their was no room in the car. Highway patrol investigated and found speed was not a factor. The road had no shoulder (many in Montana don't) and their left front wheel dropped off and Jace, the driver over corrected, it flipped and burned.
No greater tragedy can befall a family. The world still keeps spinning and some mornings I wake up and it's not the first thing I think of, but they are few. Football season is under way and Kyler is playing hard for his brothers, but it's a heavy burden for him and his classmates.
If you want to read more about the boys, Google their names and there is a lot. Kale and Kade Phelps. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
