I began my English teaching career at Waukegan High School in 1969. I married Tom Burckhalter July 10, 1976. Our daughter was born in 1980 and our son was born in 1983. Tom died of cancer in February 1998; daughter Rebecca joined the Marines in September 1998 and served as mechanical support in the air wing for five years. Her husband, Jeremy Jensen is career Marine, and the two of them are currently earning college degrees at the University of Illinois. Their son was born March 23, 2007. Son Robert graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, June 2006, and is currently living in Providence while he establishes a career as a free lance illustrator: www.robreyart.com.

In the two years and three months that I have been retired, I have ridden my bicycle over 4000 miles. I have enjoyed several week-long bicycle tours in Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida, and Prince Edward Island. August 2006 I took a British Isles bus tour with classmate Chris Wistey, and in February 2007 I took a short cruise to the Bahamas..

I have no idea where I'm going, but I'm trying to enjoy the ride.
