He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1964 and from the University of Iowa in 1968.
He worked for Kansas Gas and Electric Co. from 1969 to 1978 in Wichita, Kansas, as a public relations administrator and media relations coordinator.
In 1978, he became assistant vice president of public information for Colorado Electric Association in Montrose, Colo.
In 1983 he returned to Iowa and worked as a freelance writer for several utility companies in the Midwest. In 1987, he began work at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. He resided in Las Vegas, Nev., for the past 10 years.
Mr. Ashland is survived by his mother, Mary Lou, of Clear Lake; three sisters: Brenda (Jeff) Heinz, of Mason City, Rosemary Norlin, of Ames, and Janice (Garry MacNeill), of Playa Del Rey, Calif.; one brother, Keith, of Mason City; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father Albert; his brother, Jerry; and his sister, Karen.
