'Surfer Girl'
Your life since 1963:  I went to NIACC for a year and then got married.  Had one son, Rob. Went to Northwest Missouri State College and received my degree in education in 1968. Moved to Phoenix, Arizona and began teaching 1st grade in the Peoria School District. Was divorced in January of 1970. Remarried in September of 1970 to Denny Kitchen. I took a break from teaching at the end of the year in 1973 and had my son Johnathan. Eighteen months later, my daughter, Amy, was born. We stayed in Phoenix until December of 1977. Denny opened a CPA practice in Britt at that time. I worked in his office and also served as Secretary to the Britt Chamber of Commerce until 1988. At that time I went back into teaching and taught first grade at Britt Elementary. Denny was diagnosed with cancer in the Fall of 1988 and died in 1990. Amy, Johnathan, and I stayed in Britt until they graduated from high school and had a couple of years of college. We then moved to Tucson in 1996 to be closer to my mom, sister, and brother.

Your life now:  I began teaching first grade in the Vail School District that year. Finally got promoted to second grade in 2001 and have loved every minute of it. I received my Masters in Education in 2000. I have three wonderful grandsons from my son Rob and his wife, Kelly. Those boys are the light of my life and I love to go see them in Minneapolis. Rob works for Best Buy corporate in Mpls., Johnathan works for Borders bookstore, and Amy is a sex abuse investigator for Child Protective Services in Tucson. It's good to have two of them close by.  I also love to go to California and spend time at the beach. Took my dream trip to England and France a few years ago which was great. I plan to retire in two years. I will still do some educational consulting for my school part time and plan to travel and do lots of volunteering. I can hardly wait, although being with the kids keeps us young!

What classmates have you kept in contact with? : I kept in contact with several when I moved to Britt, but have lost contact with most since I moved to Tucson. I do keep in contact with Marcia Black at Christmas.  Jay Tesene and Elaine Sargent contacted me and I e-mail Mavis some. I've also seen Julie McDonald. She, Peta Basket, and I met in Mpls. for a couple of days.

What classmates would you like to hear from? : Would love to hear from any of you. Jim and Ann Bennett were good friends in Britt.  Would love to hear from you.

Any hobbies? : I love to read.

Favorite song of 1963 or earlier : "Surfer Girl"
