Your life since
1963: I went off to Wartburg College to study Medical Technology and that’s where I met my husband
Bill. After our wedding in 1966, we ended up in the Minneapolis area for 13 years –I worked at the U
of M in the pathology department full-time, while I did graduate work part-time (MS in Genetics) and
we had 2 children (Laura and Charlie). In 1980, we moved to Massachusetts, where we have been (pretty
much) ever since. I worked at the Naval Blood Research Laboratory (4+ years), the Massachusetts State
Public Health Laboratory (6 years), and then Boston Biomedica (14 years). Most of my work has been
in lab management or project management –primarily in the areas of immunology and infectious disease,
until my recent shift to the fertility area (see below). I went through my equestrian phase (owned
a thoroughbred horse and showed in dressage and hunter classes) and my gardening (and cooking) phase.
Also an advocacy phase (for freedom for Namibia) –I actually traveled to southern Africa with a group
of Lutheran church leaders. My music phase has lasted a long time –I joined the Concord Band about 22
years ago and lead the flute section, sing in the church choir (with Bill), and started a flute choir
group (10 musicians) –I direct and also play bass flute.
Your life now: Bill and I moved
to a condominium townhouse 7 years ago –after the kids left home –to get away from the yard work. Bill
is working for Fidelity and I’m still working –but I refer to my current job as a segue to retirement.
I’m lab manager of the California Cryobank (a reproductive tissue bank –aka sperm bank). This makes
for some interesting dinner conversation –-lots more interesting than my husband’s job –he is a pension
actuary. And I am enjoying my two grandchildren. I keep busy with church activities (choir and flutes
and Bible study and committees) and music and dancing with my husband.
What classmates have you
kept in contact with? : mostly just Gene and Kathy Hinrichs
What classmates would you like
to hear from? : any who want to hear back from me
Would/could you help find classmates? :
I would if I could.
Any hobbies? : I keep busy with music (band, choir, flute choir) and
do some gardening (indoors at home in our condo and outdoors at church). Bill and I love dancing –we
go ballroom dancing just about every week and continue to take lessons to improve our technique and learn
new steps. (We look just like those people on TV.) Waltz and west coast swing are my current favorites
–we know how to do almost everything. I also practice yoga a few times a week –it’s great for trying
to stay limber. I listen to lots and lots of audio books on my long commute –takes me about an hour
to get into Cambridge every day.
Favorite song of 1963 or earlier : “Surfer Girl” by the Beach
Boys
