Marital status: married Spouse:Mary

Address: 304 North Shore Drive Clear Lake, IA 50428
Career notes: I am serving my ninth and last four year term as the Cerro Gordo County Treasurer (title and register motor vehicles, collect real estate taxes, and fund local governments). The first time I had both a primary (Democratic) and a general election opponent. The last eight times I have run unopposed. I have much to be grateful for to the citizens of Cerro Gordo County.
Highlights of your life: I married Mary Kilen/Glaser in 1972, a widow with 4 children. At that time the children were 13, 12, 10, and 2. I should add the word “step” but it just doesn’t apply as I always thought of them as if they were my own. In 1975, during my third month in office, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor; it was both benign and operable. The surgery left the left side of my face limited in terms of motion with total deafness in my left ear, thank you Mayo Clinic! I have been a local politician for more than thirty years and because Iowa is the first in the nation caucuses, I have met everyone from Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama. I introduced Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton before very large gatherings; John Glenn has been in our kitchen. Politics is fun as long as you keep it in prospective as after the caucuses the politicians leave skid marks getting out of Iowa. The most significant honor bestowed on me was being asked by my son to be his best man.
Memories from your school days: The quality of our education and cohesiveness of our relationships.
Activities you now enjoy: Golf, giving speeches mostly about sports trivia and county government. I also am involved with Pat “Larsen” Schultz in the Clear Lake School foundation. I have a passion for the history of Clear Lake and the elected offices in Cerro Gordo County.
Favorite music: Buddy Holly of course and anything by Frank Sinatra.
