Highlights: Paul and I have traveled a great deal in Europe and the U.K. We spend our vacations in Hawaii. Paul is semi-retired – works a few days a week in the automotive supplier field. But his main job is playing golf. We are both active in our community, and we belong to the Richmond Lion’s Club and work a lot at the district level. We have lived in Michigan for over 40 years and love having our children and grandchildren live so close to us.
High School Memories: Marlene, my twin sister, and I moved to Northwood, Iowa, for our last two years of high school, but our memories of Clear Lake and our class have been discussed many times between us. We both agree that those were great times – the dances, the friendships, even the teachers. We liked living in Clear Lake, and because Paul, my husband, was from Kensett, we have been back to Iowa and Clear Lake many times over the years and I have been able to watch Clear Lake change . . . and the lake always brings back great memories.
Favorite music: I have to admit that my music tastes have not changed much over the years. . . just give me that old time rock and roll and I am happy! I do like classical music and music from the 60’s as we lived in Ann Arbor, which was the most anti-war, liberal community on the planet during that time. Therefore, the music of the day ranks up there with my favorites. But my most favorite music from the 57-61 period would have to be Buddy Holly’s “That’ll Be The Day” and Richie Valens’ “La Bamba.” I was at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake the night they played their last concert before they crashed north of the Mason City airport that night. I remember that night like it was yesterday . . . and the music as well. A few years later, I worked for the Dwyer Flying Service and had access to the crash sight photos and records. For years I had that knowledge when no one else did . . . now it is available on line.
Note: I would like to thank all who are putting this one line . . . what a great idea, and I know many classmates feel the same way. You can be sure Paul and I will be at the next class reunion. Thank you.
