Career notes: I retired in June, 2008 from working as Deputy Recorder in the Franklin County Recorder's office. I'm very much enjoying retirement.
Highlights of your life: The highlights in my life are my husband, children and grandchildren. We're a close-knit "bunch", doing lots of things together as a family. I love babysitting for the grandchildren. We're active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Hampton. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. After surgery and radiation treatments, I'm doing well. Faith, family and friends helped get me through that difficult time. I've truly learned to appreciate the simpler things in life.
Memories from your school days: I have so many good memories - The Lincoln School days, being scared to death of Miss Anderson. She was SO TALL; how much we dreaded going to Central School because "those" kids called us the "Lincoln Stinkin kids"..... remember THAT, Bob Friest??? - Miss Jensen, our 6th grade teacher who seemed to "step out of the room" often. Every time she'd come back, we had to write, "I'll never do this or I'll never do that" 100 times - whatever it happened to be that we did wrong while she was gone; the many high school band trips; marching at Band Festival every year; all the out of town ball games Sandy Shoop's dad would drive us to, in their station wagon; learning to knit in Girl Scouts from our leader, Mrs. Rabe; all the taxi rides Mary Ann Walker provided "way out" to the new high school every day; (Thank you, Mary Ann); going across the street where we lived, to Terry Duregger's to play with his neat pin ball machine; Later when they moved to the North side of town, all the dances he'd have in his basement where we jitterbugged the nights away; and last, but not least, working as a carhop at the "other" drive-in (The Silver Boot) and having to wear those silly short, fringed skirts with boots embroidered on them!!!
Activities you now enjoy: I love to read and enjoy being outside. We have a huge yard and a garden to keep up. I enjoy freezing and canning and I especially enjoy baking bread. We still enjoy attending sports events at Hampton-Dumont High School. I guess we just kept right on going, after our kids graduated, maybe from pure habit. We also attend as many of our grandchildren's events as possible, so are still bleacher sitting!!! We still go to Clear Lake each 4th of July to watch the parade, in front of Bob and Mary Sue Friest's home. We always run into many old friends there. They are GRACIOUS hosts. We've never done much traveling. I'd like to do more of that. We raise cattle and farm 400 acres. Life on the farm is GREAT and was a wonderful place to raise our children. If you're in our area, please stop. We're only 8 miles east of I-35 or just west 3/4 mile from Hwy. 65, just two miles north of Hampton.
Favorite music: I'm still a kid at heart. I still enjoy Rock 'n Roll music.
Favorite song from '57-'61: Love Letters in the Sand, by Pat Boone.
