After high school he went to LeTourneau Technical Institute for a couple of years...he really enjoyed Texas and he was often heard saying:  "I never want to spend another winter in Iowa!"   (Personally, I suspect he never again wanted to do all that hard work in his Dad's dairy!)
He met his wife, Bonnie in Texas and they settled down in Dallas...they had three lovely daughters and two sons...(he named his youngest son Lionel after his much loved hobby of model trains).   He had six grandchildren.
His first job was delivering Coca Cola around Dallas...then he decided to work at a local hardware store which he enjoyed very much.  The owner told him "if anyone needed to find anything, Gordon would know where to locate it."
He was a real fan of Texas and the Dallas Cowboys.   He led a simple, enjoyable, home-based Christian life.
