Probably second grade, although it could have been first. The smiling black kid in the upper right corner is Raymond Kimball. He was my best friend. I'm the dumb looking kid in the second row, farthest to the left as you look at the pic. The sticks we were holding were musical instruments. We hit them on the floor. It was called a Rhythm Band. I blame all of my sorrows thoughout my entire life on my failure to make it big in the Rhythm Band. But that's another story. Mark Melcher
