Life Since 1957: I went to MCJC for two years & played football, B-Ball & baseball. Then Jack MacDonald & I went into the Navy for two years under the reserve program. Lucky Jack's duty was in Hawaii-- I served two years as a radarman on the USS Coral Sea, an attack aircraft carrier.
After discharge I went to Pacific Luthern University & played baseball. I was in the 'teacher ed program'. The following year I married Susie Dohl. We transferred to Central Washington U. in Ellensburg. I received my BA in education and the next year I got my Masters Degree. We moved to Port Washington after one fun year teaching in Zillah, Wa.
I divorced and married Gloria Hanke Atkins in 1980. For 29 years I taught 5th, 6th and 7th grades, coached H.S. football, basketball, sailing, baseball & tennis. Gloria & I combined 3 children each, raising 6 children while I was teaching & Gloria being an accountant. When our youngest, Molley, graduated Gloria started a 3 year nursing program. She has been a nurse for almost 15 years now.
I taught for Peninsula College five years & then two years at Gray Wolf Ranch, a Half-way house for 'recovering boys'. I'm now completely retired. I play/sing in a Jazz group for the past 17 years, fly fish & play tennis twice weekly.
Gloria retires in about 40 days (Jan '07) so she has these 'short time' calendars around the house. I think she's anxious!! We purchased a new 24' Class C motor home & plan to explore AZ & NM soon.
If anyone ever travels to Seattle, we are one hour away. Please come to see us. You all are invited but not at the same time! I've done a few 50s R/R parties with our Jazz Band but my favorite song in H.S. was Shangri La by the 4 Coins. I had a H.S. summer crush on Linda Whitney but Mick had the 'inside track' because she worked at Witkes. Cool move, Mick! I have been back to Clear Lake a few times, so have seen a few of my buddies and I keep in contact with Mick Minette. He is a great pal. Hope to hear from any of you.
