| It was in 1948 and it was a big election year. Gerald was dressed as Thomas Dewey and I was supposed
to be Harry Truman. Bob Mead and Bill Geil were portraying our campaign managers. We led the annual
parade down Main Street that year trying to get the people out to vote for us. Ah the memories.. (submitted

In 1856, just prior to the Civil War, President Abe Lincoln made a call to the five studs in this picture
to enlist in the USAF. They all did enlist in a group which stayed together for a matter of hours...
On July 28, 1956 the picture proves the 5 enlistees are standing at the train station in Mason City,
Iowa on their way to Des Moines to straighten the whole system out.
On July 29 they took their
oath to serve and on July 30 all 5 hardened veterans would have given anything to get out and go home
to reconsider their decision.
Left to right: Jerry Millard, Henry Gehl, General Al Jo, Rog
Westover and Russ Wood. |
