MARITAL STATUS:  Married Pat Renshaw from Ventura on June 8th, 1958.  We have a son in Cincinnati, a son in Cedar Rapids and a daughter in Mason City.  We have three grandsons and one granddaughter.

HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR LIFE:  Our marriage, the birth of our three children and four grands.  In 1964 and 1965 we owned and operated the Lake Shore Hotel and even though it would be so popular today, back then it was outdated.
After we were married, Pat taught school for several years and after four years in the Air Force we came back to the Clear Lake area and in 1965 I went into the insurance business and we sold our business and retired in 1999.

RETIREMENT FUN:  We have traveled the whole U.S. many times over the years and still love to travel.  We have a small lake home in Minnesota where we spend part of the summer, our main home in C.L. and then we spend some of the winter in Arizona.  After having surgery for lung cancer in May of '04 I may run a little slower but still will go as long as we are able.

MEMORIES FROM YOUR SCHOOL DAYS:  All I can remember is how poorly I actually did in school and even had to look a few years back to see if my diploma was signed.

TYPE OF MUSIC AND ACTIVITIES YOU NOW ENJOY:  We still like the music from the 40's and 50's.  Today we enjoy alittle fishing, golfing, visiting and keeping in touch with classmates.

Music is

This is everyone who showed up for Jerry and Pat's 50th.  The old guy next to her must be her adopted Father cuz he looks older than Methusala or whatever his name was.
To my right is our son Todd and Denise and their two kids are in front of us, Keegan age 12 and MacKenzie age 10.
To my left is our eldest son Terry and Tracy.  Terry's two sons are Matt at about 26 and Ben at about 23 I THINK...  Teresa is our daughter and she is standing on Ben it looks like.

Dear Friends,
It is my unpleasant duty to inform all of you that our beloved classmate Jerry Millard passed away tonight. He was home with Pat & Judi & I along with the Hospice nurse. He passed peaceful & this afternoon when he & I were alone we reminisced about the classmates & shared a laugh or two in the process.
His funeral service information isn't fully known at this time as his 2 son's and brother are in route here. When it is known, I'll let you know.
Rest in Peace old friend, you meant an awful lot to a lot of us.  Love, Norm & Judi Hansen
Jerry passed away on
19 August, 2009.
See below for messages from
loved ones and friends.
Pat,
Jerry is going to be missed by many people.  This is one of those times that I put things off too long.  I had planned on calling last night to see how things were going.  When I thought of it again, in my thinking , 11:00 was too late to call.
Please let me know when the service is going to take place and if there is going to be a memorial.  Just know you're in my thoughts and prayers.  If there's anything you need or you just want to talk let me know.  Love ya, Jan (Oden)
Dear Pat,
I am so glad we were able to make it to the rumble this spring, we would have been so sorry now if we hadn't. We had one last good blast. He has been such a great organizer and we all loved him for it.  Bob & Linda (Kellogg)
I just want to let all of you know how very sorry I am for your loss of a loved one, a classmate and a dear friend.  Jerry was the reason that your class got on the web and also that several other CLHS classes joined.  I had never met him until this past July at the All Web Site Reunion but I felt as tho he was a very special friend.  I'm so thankful that I was able to have a chance to talk to him at the Breakfast.
Again, I am so very sorry for your loss.  His family and friends are in my prayers.

'A Note From Jerry'
Hello Dear Friends,
Just wanted to pass along a note from our home to yours.  After struggling with my health for awhile I gave in and went to the ER at Mayo Clinic on Aug. 5th & 6th.  After many tests they told me to go home and get things in order and enjoy what time is left.
I have been assigned to Hospice in Mason City but will remain home as long as possible.
Thanks for all of the unbelieveable memories each one of you have left with Pat and I.  I know this isn't real personal but as time allows we will want to touch base with as many of you as possbile.
Love you all very much.  Pat and Jerry
10 August, 2009   If there is a person on this earth that enjoys people any more, or perhaps better said ... former classmates, old friends, or specifically 56er's .... well, there just isn't!   You are responsible for so many things, Jerry.  I for one was never that comfortable coming back to Clear Lake but the very first time I came back with Denise from  West ... OK "By God" Virginia was because of you and your damn rumbles. .  And what we did together in Laughlin ( just stop a minute and consider what and where Laughlin is ) but they came didn't they  and it truly was a  miracle in the desert.   Denise and my memories have been enriched more than I can ever thank you for.  Neezer and my thoughts and prayers are with you and Pat  ...  so hang in there Jerry,  we're rooting for you!  Love Al and Denise
I think it was about 8 years ago that Jerry called me in California and asked if I was the Sheryl Knight that lived in Clear Lake, Iowa and attended school there in the late '40's and early '50's?  I said "yes, that is me". lol  Jerry went on to tell me who he was and I did remember a boy in Clear Lake by that name who had lots of freckles and reddish color hair.! lol  I attended my first "Laughlin Rumble" in 2002 and it was such a lift to reconnect with my friends from Clear Lake.  I have stayed in contact with Jerry and Pat since that time trying to attend the rumbles in Laughlin as often as possible.
Jerry was such a special person and wonderful friend.  He will be missed by many I am sure.  Sheryl Knight-Scheel

You are hale and hearty once again
It is a beautiful scene
Beyond that bright light
You're thru with the earthly fight
That is all over and done
The best is yet to come.
When you arrive, you'll see
He prepared a special place.
You will be wrapped in God's all encompassing embrace.
Rest in peace, dear friend.

Jerry Millard was a very special person!   He was the gel that kept our class so close.  He found those that left us early on and we welcomed them back and got to know them again.  He was gone from Clear Lake for a number of years but when he returned he really got to work on the rumbles, etc.  I haven't been able to attend all of the rumbles but do enjoy the pictures of every one.  Let's keep his legacy going and remain close.  Someday I'll get to one of the far off ones so until then I'll go to the ones that I can and remember Jerry every minute.  My deepest sympathy to Pat and her family.  She's the greatest too!       Love, Bob and Pat (McGowan) Hoyt

Good Morning All,
Just a few things as I sit here listening to the rain & thinking
about the recent events.

This morning Judi & I met up with Dee at this flower shop downtown. It is located where the old Corner Drug used to be & in the sidewalk in front is a brick commemorating the Class of 1956! Jerry got this done & made sure it was placed in front of the old Corner Drug.
For years Jerry used the phrase: "PUSHING UP DAISIES!" I made sure that there will be just 1 daisy, just for him!
I miss my old friend as I'm sure most all do. As I leaned over him to cover him with his throw blanket & adjust the pillows, I told him that he could go, if he wanted and to make sure he said hello to Leach. I can't swear to it, but I thought I caught a slight smile come to him as I said this. I give thanks that he didn't suffer any more than he'd already done.
His last afternoon, Judi had taken Pat to have lunch with the girls, & Huntley & Jerry & I sat & talked. Of course we laughed & red-assed each other, just like always, only a lot slower. He wanted us to keep the 'rumbles' going, roast him at them, just like they used to
do on the old Dean Martin show. (his words)
As I was in the kitchen, I looked over & he was putting on his shoes & tying the laces. I asked him where he was going. His answer was: "we have to get to Butcher's to join the girls for lunch!" I convinced him no as it was storming out & they would be just about done. Even the last day his priorities were to be with the classmates to enjoy their company & have a good rumble.
This morning after the flower shop I let Dee take Judi back to the Ashland's & I went for a drive. Fertile to face the peak traffic hour! Then on to Ventura to the dreaded 4 way stop!! I was all prepared for that s.o.b. in the walker that used to terrorize my friend. He didn't show! I was really bummed until I figured that Millard was probably protecting me.
I also am remembering that day in December of '97 when I was sitting all alone in my home in El Segundo, Ca. & the phone rang. I said hello & this voice asked if I remembered a freckle faced, red headed kid from Clear Lake! It had been over 44 years since I had heard that voice. As Jerry so often liked to tell people, my life was not normal since! He did that to people. He found so many of us & brought most back into the fold & then sat back & grinned from ear to ear.
I'd like to share some of this and more at his service, but I know I won't be able to do it. You see that 'old salt truck' is parked here & they are arguing over who's driving, who's got shotgun, who's in the sleeper!
Hugs to you all!  Norm     P.S. Thanks for letting me share!
