"Memorial by Jerry Millard Harvey went to school in Clear
Lake during his sophomore and junior years and then moved to Garner. During his two years in the class
of '56 he touched many lives and enjoyed all of the people he ever knew. During the late 90's, as I
was trying to find classmates who had gone to school with us and then were no longer easy to find, I
will never forget my first visit with Harv once I located him in Dallas Center with his dear friend Velma
Renfro who was also a saint. After a nice long visit with Harv on the phone he was flying high and so
was I and Velma said he never did come down through his remaining years and he never missed a rumble
after that. The one thing I will never forget about Harv was his people personality. Many
times after a rumble was quieting down he would start talking about how much he enjoyed a guy or gal
who he said he liked during school and it was now so much fun to see that particular person again. Well
56ers, at least a few of the classmates he remembered so well when he was going to school in Clear Lake
had moved from our area long before Harv ever moved into town. Now Harv was really a great People Person
but I think he really pushed the envelope much to far but everyone he had contact with never let on and
we all gained so much more that we put into knowing Harv again. Harv is one person who really
touched many 56ers in such a positive way and enjoyed it as much as we all did. The day Harv died,
Pat and I were west of Phoenix on our way to the '04 Yeager Rumble in Laughlin, Nv. and Norm Hansen called
us on our cell phone. Thanks Harv and Velma for some great memories and fantastic friendships. Love
ya both.
